SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A four percent rate increase in water and sewer rates is being mulled by the South Tahoe Public Utility District Board of Directors.
If approved, the cost of water and sewer service would jump about $32 per year for the owners of an average 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, said STPUD spokesman Dennis Cocking. The rate increase could take effect July 1.
The possible rate increase is part of STPUD's preference for small incremental rate increases, rather than big jumps in prices seen at utility district's around the region, Cocking said.
STPUD rate increases are largely driven by capital improvement projects at the district, Cocking said.
Customers can oppose the rate increase by responding to an upcoming notice from STPUD.
STPUD's board of directors will also hold a public hearing on the possible rate increase at the district's office on May 6.
