SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — If the SMG Tourism, Technology and Marketing Workshop held Wednesday had a slogan, it might be this statement by keynote speaker David LaPlante:
“If you think that things are moving fast, you're right they are moving fast and they're going to move faster.”
LaPlante, senior vice president of sales and marketing for One to One Interactive, spoke to 85 attendees at the conference sponsored by the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Tahoe.com, Noble Studios, On The Snow and Smith + Jones Marketing. The event's attendance exceeded organizer Carl Ribaudo's expectations, he attributed it to the “quality of the speakers and the subject matter of the different tracks.”
The event was split into two different tracks of sessions, one for intermediate attendees and one for attendees with advanced experience with technology and marketing. Sessions covered blogging, using search engines effectively, e-mail marketing, social media tools for business, using video, online advertising, and mobile marketing and applications.
The Strategic Marketing Group is already thinking toward next year, Ribaudo said.
“The interest is there and the subject is not going to go away,” said Ribaudo, president of Strategic Marketing Group. “This technology comes at you so fast, you really have to figure out ways to look at it and think about it and apply it to whatever business organization you are.”
