SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College's first Winter Expo brought hundreds of community members out for an afternoon and evening of music, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, movies and cotton candy.
"I'm happy to see more events like this in Tahoe, embracing our youth and the talent that's here," said Liz Hallen, whose business Hot Gossip had a booth at the event and whose son Preston Hallen won the 12 and under division of the rail jam.
The festivities kicked off with local musicians Adient Zoo playing a set in the Duke Theatre. The rail jam began at 5 p.m. with the 12 and under class and finished almost four hours later with the 18 and over division. About 20 businesses, non-profits and college clubs were represented at the event.
"I think the response from the community was tremendous," said interim Dean Kurt Green. "It made us realize we need to institute things like this every year. We're already planning for a similar event next year."
