These Starving Millionaires appreciate a record deal more than a tax cut.
The San Jose trio which coalesced in 2005 signed with Long Beach Records in 2006. Obviously, Sublime and Slightly Stoopid are major influences.
“I started out listening to Bob Marley, then Sublime came out my senior year high school,” said singer-guitarist Eric. “That literally made me buy a guitar, write songs and pick a band.”
The Starving Millionaires perform at Whiskey Dick's Saloon Saturday, Feb. 19. South Shore's Lavish Green opens the show.
“Lavish plays good music and has a good following,” Eric said. “They have chops and longevity.”
With a name inspired by a rooftop breakfast, Lavish Green has been rocking Tahoe since it played a house party on Alameda Street in 1995.
The seventh album the band released, in 2007, received lavish praise from this magazine. “All4U” was a top-shelf production by Chris Sanchez, a part-time bartender, and his crew, Lake Tahoe Action wrote. The brave, veteran band superbly covered Led Zeppelin's “Immigrant Song,” and wrote a personal tribute to Sublime singer Bradley Nowell, “Just Another Day.”
Starving Millionaires has an EP and two full-length albums, including the recently released “It Ain't Pretty.”
Eric said the band plays 80 percent originals and covers Sublime and Slightly Stoopid, bands it has opened for.
Tickets for the Late-Nite Productions event are $10 at the door.
