SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Beginning Aug. 2, Highway 88 will be completely closed to through traffic 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on weekdays near Carson Pass. The three-hour closures will be in effect until Sept. 30 or until the project is finished, said Caltrans spokeswoman Chantel Miller.
Caltrans is removing a fractured rock surface from the sides of the roadway to prevent rock slides. Crews will also widen the shoulder to prevent slides from landing on the road, Miller said.
“Most people understand why we need to do this, especially those who have driven that road,” she said.
One-way traffic control will be in effect 24 hours every day from July 25 until Sept. 30, except for hours when the road is fully closed.
