SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — South Lake Tahoe police will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 24 in support of a national impaired driving crack down that runs through the Labor Day holiday.
Officers will randomly screen drivers for signs of impairment during the checkpoint.
Saturation patrols are also planned in from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Aug. 26-27, Aug. 29-30, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 and Sept. 3-4 in South Lake Tahoe, according to a separate statement.
A warrant sweep is also planned for Friday.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies also expect to conduct increased DUI enforcement patrols during the late evening and early morning hours of Aug. 26-27 and Sept. 2-3 along the US Highway 395 and State Route 208 corridors, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office.
“The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is committed and focused on keeping the roads and highways of our community safe,” Sheriff Ron Pierini said in the statement. “As part of that effort, we will be conducting additional traffic enforcement details when resources allow, particularly targeting distracted or intoxicated drivers”.
Everyone who drinks should find a ride with a sober driver or use a taxi service, Pierini added.
