TRUCKEE/TAHOE, Calif. — Slow Food is hosting a free Food Swap at Truckee River Winery, Oct. 30, 2-4 p.m. A food swap is an event where community members get together to trade homemade, homegrown and foraged food.
The items are your currency to swap with other participants. Meet new friends and neighbors while stocking up with natural, homemade treats.
Find out more and sign up for the Food Swap at slowfoodlaketahoe.org. Slow Food is a global organization with supporters who link the pleasures of good food with a commitment to their community and the environment. Slow Food’s mission is to reconnect people to the enjoyment of food and educate the community about their role as co-producers. Slow food believes the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work. Dining for trails
The Truckee Trails Foundation (TTF) is joining forces with the River Ranch Restaurant’s “Dining for Charity” program to raise money for local trails Friday, Nov. 4, 6-9 p.m. Thirty percent of each dinner bill, excluding alcohol, will go to support TTF.
Since 2002, the community’s trail advocacy, planning, development, and maintenance have been supported by Truckee Trails Foundation (TTF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. During the past 10 years, TTF has helped to maintain more than 50 miles of trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail, Donner Lake Rim Trail and the Commemorative Overland Emigrant Trail. Through grant writing and other fundraising, TTF has also raised more than $70,000 for paved bike paths, including the Brockway Road Trail and the Truckee River Legacy Trail.
The mission of the Truckee Trails Foundation is to champion a network of trails and bikeways for community, economic, and environmental well-being in Truckee. For more information about TTF, visit www.truckeetrails.org. Reservations for the River Ranch dinner can be made by calling 530-583-4264.
