Measure R passes, Rise ousted

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Voters approved Measure R and two new members of the South Lake Tahoe Public Utility Directors during Tuesday's Election.

Measure R, which won approval by 70 percent, will expand the South Lake Tahoe Recreational Facilities Joint Powers Authority's use of Measure S funds to include the renovation of Class 1 bike trails built before Sept. 19, 2000 and improvement of ball fields on the California side of the South Shore.

In the South Lake Tahoe Public Utility District race, incumbent Dale Rise lost to newcomer Kelly Sheehan who received 66.39 percent of the vote. A second seat that was up for grabs was taken by Randy Vogelgesang with 37.18 percent.

Incumbents in both the Lake Tahoe Community College and Lake Tahoe Unified School District governing board members maintained their seats as Michael Bischoff, who ran for both boards, did not win enough votes to displace any of them.
