INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus announces the Primiere Fall Showcase Concert presentation of the newly formed Tahoe Symphony Youth Orchestra.
The concert takes place at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Original pieces by Brian Balmages, Margaret Fenske and Sean O’Loughlin will be presented, as well as arrangements of several seasonal carols. All selections will be conducted by Joel Munc, the orchestra’s founding conductor. Leighton Cook, from South Lake Tahoe, serves as concertmaster.
The Tahoe Symphony Youth Orchestra rehearses every Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church from 4:15-6:15 p.m., and is open to all string players and flutists from grades 6 through 12.
Fourteen players come from the Incline Village-Kings Beach area, and six players are driven from South Lake Tahoe each week for rehearsals. For Spring 2012, new players will be joining the group from the Truckee area.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations at the door for next semester’s student scholarships are very much needed. Toccata is seeking supporters and a major sponsor for the orchestra’s Spring 2012 activities.
Toccata completes its sixth season with five performances of Messiah, Dec. 14-20, and will open its seventh season January 20-24 with performances of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor with guest violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn.
