I wish to express my appreciation to the kind and loving friends of Crystal Delaney.
Your commitment to her happiness, quality of life and continued independence in the face of serious medical challenges was extraordinary.
In particular, I would like to thank the following:
Bruce Grego and staff for keeping Crystal's affairs in order and the deep friendships that evolved from that association; companions and caregivers Donna Cattoni (#1 friend and “boss”), Helen Simons, Angela Cannick and Priscilla Rohrich; Tai and Dan Passaretti and family for Thanksgiving dinners, movies, comfort food during illnesses and their never failing love, respect and accommodation; St. Theresa Catholic Church and Father Grace, who Crystal adored; Katie Donovan, Pat Murphy, Bev, Irene and Jo-Jo to name but a few, and Father Ben and Helping Hands for a beautiful service and reception; Bueno and Marty Ketelsen, family and staff for Crystal's permanent VIP status at Bert's and for the best 90th birthday party ever; Jennifer McLaughlin for being our rock during the rough patches and, when noting Crystal's many warm friends, referred to her as our “90-year-old rock star,” a moniker that stuck; Dr. Henning Mehrens for his extraordinary kindness; Dr. Abby Cohen for half a lifetime of care and for whom Crystal had tremendous admiration; Evan and Candice Williams and the staff of The Cantina who always extended a warm welcome and accommodated Crystal's every and sometimes amusing need; Dick Mullinax for his friendship, snow removal, a beautiful garden and a walk-in closet, no less; Julie and Toni of Emerald Bay Hair and Nail Salon for keeping Crystal her beautiful self; Gene Ray for his friendship, pizza nights and a ride to church every Sunday with breakfast to follow; Mimi of the post office for her close friendship and beautiful smile; Barton Health Skilled Nursing, most specifically Maureen Cooper, nurses Betsy, Corey, and Kate, occupational therapists Tracey and Julie, the nursing assistants with the huge hearts and the anonymous person with the kind manner who always patiently answered the phone.
This is a special and caring community. There are those I may have failed to mention and I hope you will forgive me.
Crystal loved all of you and deeply treasured your friendships.
I'm sure I speak for Crystal when I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
