Toccata presents Mendelssohn in the Mountains with Elizbeth Pitcairn

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus recently announced the initial concert series of its seventh season with Mendelssohn in the Mountains.Famed violinist, Elizabeth Pitcairn, will perform Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin, and the fifty-voice Symphony Chorus will present Part 2 of Mendelssohn’s most important symphonic oratorio — Elijah.Soloists for Elijah include Katharine DeBoer, Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, soprano; Maryanne Ashley, mezzo soprano; Mark Williams, tenor; and Stuart Duke, baritone, in the roll of Elijah.The performances are:• Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the North Tahoe Hebrew Center in Tahoe Vista,• Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Incline Village,• Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. at St. Theresa Church in South Lake Tahoe; and• Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Church in Reno.Members from the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus, directed by Susan Horst, will join Toccata for the January 19 and 21 performances.Tickets are available at the door or online at General admission to all concerts is $30 adults, $25 seniors, $5 students aged 19 to 25 with valid ID; preferred seating is $40.Toccata has received a generous grant from the Parasol Tahoe Foundation, allowing all youth under 18 years of age to be admitted free to all concerts in 2012. A special “soiree musicale” will take place in an elegant private home as a fundraiser for the concert series and for the new Tahoe Symphony Youth Orchestra.It will be on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. in Incline Village, with admission at $100 per person. Wine and cheese is included. Joy Strotz, Mark Williams and Stuart Duke will perform arias and Broadway tunes, accompanied by Donna Axton on piano.Elizabeth Pitcairn will conclude the event with selections from Mendelssohn’s Violin concerto and special encore selections.
