George Alm, a 17-year Lake Tahoe broadcast veteran and past president of the Tahoe Ambassadors Club for the Chamber of Commerce of South Lake Tahoe and Kiwanis, has joined community-oriented K-Tahoe radio.
A native of Indiana, Alm graduated from Vincennes University with a B.S. degree in Broadcasting, taking immediate on-air, production and sales positions in the Indianapolis-area market.
Relocating to the Lake Tahoe Basin in 1988, Alm worked in Harveys' food and beverage area before accepting a sales position at KRLT and KOWL, where he stayed for 21⁄2 years prior to a 41⁄2-year term at KTHO AM and FM.
Following a 6-year hiatus from radio that included sales and marketing in radio, television, merchandising and working with and eventually purchasing the original Lake Tahoe Visitors Map, Alm returned to KRLT and KOWL for an 11-year venture during which time he created and developed the annual “Treat Street” Halloween celebration sponsored by The South Shore Chamber of Commerce where thousands of costumed kids receive candy in a safe, controlled environment.
An avid and accomplished bowler, Alm has been managing Taylor Creek Auctions in South Lake Tahoe for 17 years doing live auctions for estates, storage sites, casinos and various non-profit events.
Alm's latest entrepreneurial venture is the establishment of the Tahoe-centric internet portal, TahoeFirst.com, for the benefit of community, friends, and life in the Tahoe Basin.
