TAHOE, Calif. — Thank you to the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation and community for the tremendous support in carrying out the 2011 Holiday Food and Clothing Project. Our congregation along with help from numerous segments of the community made the Holiday Food and Clothing Project held on Dec. 17 a great success! The Holiday Food and Clothing Project supplied food, winter clothing and books to 220 North Shore families serving approximately 1,200 people. The event supplied more than 20,000 pounds of food and an enormous amount of winter clothing to North Shore families in need along with quality books.
There are many people, businesses and organizations that should be acknowledged. First, Wells Fargo Community Development for their extremely generous grant. Also, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation for their financial support. Safeway Foundation was generous with gift card support.
A special thank you to Ron Stanger at Village Market for their generosity. I would like to recognize Safeway Kings Beach meat department for their tremendous help. I greatly appreciate the help of George LeBard and his staff at Project MANA for their ongoing support and assistance. I want to thank Dan Clift and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada for their continued and extensive help. I am grateful to Pastor Chip Larson and the Christ the King congregation for their kind donations of winter clothing. Special thanks to Donna Coombs and the students and parents of the Tahoe Expedition Academy (TEA) for doing an incredible job collecting warm clothing and publicizing the event. Thanks to Elisa Tauber for organizing the clothes distribution. Patsy Sevison did an amazing job with a core group of volunteers collecting items from local bakeries. Nancy O’Neill was very patient and helpful for Spanish translation, e-mails and phone message monitoring. Sandy Tomlinson and Diane Miller did a great job this year utilizing a different registration format that worked out well and doing all that was necessary at registration. Eileen and Allen Cohen did a great job again this year especially during distribution day. Ralph Klinke, at U-Haul / Alpine Storage was accommodating and made reserving the appropriate truck for our local deliveries easy. Cookie Steinberg and Lynn Flagg put in a lot of time and had an abundance of patience helping out with organizing and overseeing much of the operation. The Girl Scout Troops #381 and #214 were very helpful again this year. A personal note of thanks to Dave Eichenberg and Jay Shaw for stepping up and going above and beyond with their volunteer efforts.
Thank you to the dozens of community volunteers who worked extremely hard on the food organization and distribution days. I also want to acknowledge Bob Langsfeld, the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation president, who offered valuable insight. Thanks to Rabbi Meredith Cahn for sharing her wisdom and reinforcing the message of providing assistance when needed to our community with dignity and respect.
