Registration starts Wednesday for Digital Photo Institute

Registration begins Feb. 1 for the Lake Tahoe Digital Photo Institute, cosponsored by The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and South Tahoe High School. The institute begins at 4 p.m., Friday, June 29 and continues through Saturday, ending on Sunday at 1 p.m.

During this weekend institute, participants will have many opportunities to use state of the art facilities and receive excellent instruction from professional photographers in developing and improving a variety of digital photography skills. The Institute accepts beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.

Friday evening features an exciting keynote presentation by Forum Snowboards action photographer, Tim Peare. Saturday starts with a sunrise photo shoot at Emerald Bay and ends with a sunset shoot at the edge of Lake Tahoe. Assorted scenic photo shoots will be available on Saturday and Sunday.

Participants will also have different indoor learning opportunities ranging from studio figure shooting with live models, exploration of multi-media tools and Photoshop, instruction in managing workflow, the use of various matting techniques and full time access to two state-of-the-art MAC labs.

Sunday will end with a photo show where participants will have the opportunity to exhibit their work as well as learn important critiquing elements and celebrate their successes during the weekend.

Registration can be done online at the LTEF website, or by contacting Vickie Cottrill at: dpi.ltef@gmail to receive a registration packet in the mail. The all-inclusive cost of the Digital Photo Institute is $450. Participants must be 18 or older.

Landscape photos can be submitted for a chance to win a place at DPI. Submissions go to tahoedigitalphotoinstitute/ and are due by Feb. 1. The winner will be announced on March 12.

LTEF is a non-profit foundation. All profits from DPI will go to LTEF's grants program to fund enrichment activities in LTUSD schools.
