Douglas Co. Historical Society Lecture

Bob Ellison is the lecture speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center,1477 Hwy 395 N., Gardnerville.

Ellison is a long-time resident of Carson Valley and the author of numerous newspaper and magazine articles and three books on Nevada history: "Territorial Lawmen of Nevada," "First Impressions," the history of the emigrant trail through Carson Valley from 1848-1851 and "Longbeard," the story of Warren Wasson.

For the March lecture, Ellison talk about frontierswoman Laura Marie Naileigh Ellis Dittenreider, who was well known to her contemporaries, but forgotten to the generations. She was one of the first six women to settle along the Carson River. Some of Nevada's earliest history comes from her diary. As her name implies, Laura outlived three husbands.

Ellison is a former Constable of the East Fork Township and a long time employee of the former Bently Nevada Corporation.
