Lake Tahoe weather: More snow in forecast; 2 feet possible by Wednesday

LAKE TAHOE — Perhaps Miracle March is for real this year.

A couple weeks after the month started off with a fresh and much-needed layer of snow, a bunch more could be on the way beginning this week, according to various weather reports.

While a few inches of snow are expected overnight Monday, a winter storm watch will be in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening above 7,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Two or more feet of snow along and west of Highway 89 are possible up high, with up 12 inches below 7,000 feet. East of the highway, 18 inches are possible up high, with 6 inches forecast below 7,000 feet.

Furthermore, while details are unclear, “heavy snowfall” is possible above 7,000 feet as the week progresses and a cold front settles over the Northern Sierra and Western Nevada.

As of Monday, the forecast still calls for a good amount of rain at lake level and in Truckee later in the week, but the forecast could change.
