Sierra Nevada College's ski and snowboard teams continued their streak of dominance by capturing multiple titles at the United States Collegiate Ski andamp; Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships at Sunday River, Maine, from March 6-10.Between its ski and snowboard teams, Sierra Nevada College (SNC) has now won at least one team USCSA national championship in 20 of the last 22 years.SNC's women won the national title in giant slalom skiing as sophomore Matea Ferk earned an individual national championship, besting second place by more than a second. The women also finished second overall in the slalom competition, allowing them to repeat as the women's national team champions, followed by Brown University in second place.The alpine men’s ski team also captured the highly-coveted combined national title by dominating the field in giant slalom and finish second in slalom. Sophomore Luca Ricou won the overall-combined individual title. The top-ranked team had all five of its skiers finish in the top six in the GS, to open up an insurmountable lead over defending champion Rocky Mountain College. SNC freshman Jaka Jazbec led the way in GS by winning a championship in his first race at nationals.The men's snowboard team won team titles in slopestyle, halfpipe, and boardercross to successfully defend its national championship in the combined competition. SNC's multiple podium finishes were highlighted by freshman Brady Lem's individual title in slopestyle.The women's snowboard team won national titles in halfpipe and slopestyle en route to finishing second overall in the combined. Ashley Vander Meer led the women by winning both halfpipe and slopestyle events, while also placing fourth in the boardercross.In only its second season of competition, the freestyle women's ski team won its first titles in halfpipe, slopestyle, and the overall combined. Kim Smith won the overall-combined national championship, while Katie Souza placed first in halfpipe and teammate Rebecca Roberts also claimed a title in slopestyle.
