The Diamond Peak Ski Team traveled to Northstar for a giant Tahoe League Big Gee Race against competition from all the ski teams in the Tahoe Basin.
More than 500 athletes age 7-14 competed in this single-course race during the two days of competition. Skies were sunny, temps were warm and the race course got a bit slushy in the afternoon.
Diamond Peak was the last team to race on Saturday through a pretty sloppy race course. Nonetheless, Diamond Peak's Aidan Pretti raced to fourth place for the boys' 7/8 division, and Ethan Chen just missed an award with his 11th-place finish in the boys' 9/10.
On Sunday, Diamond Peak's Daniel D'Olimpio took the podium in second place in the boys' 11/12 division. D'Olimpio is currently in fifth place in the overall standings in his division.
On the girls' side, Diamond Peak's Sophia Holm stood atop the podium with a third-place trophy in the girls' 11/12 division.
Pretti is currently fifth in the Tahoe League point standings for the season in boys' 7/8 and Holm is in eighth place overall for girls 11/12.
The Diamond Peak team looks to do well in the Tahoe League Championships at Squaw Valley, which is scheduled for March 31 and April 1. The young Incline skiers will be training hard for the final three weeks of the season leading up to the championships.
Athletes must have competed in a minimum of two Tahoe League races in order to compete in the championships. Points are awarded for finishes in the top 15 places, with a first-place finish earning a competitor 25 points and a 15th-place finish earning a competitor a single point.
