I graduated in 31⁄2 years with a 3.61 GPA on a 4.00 scale (Top 10 percent). What is your current occupation?I have been a CPA for 27 years. The last 13 of those, I have sold tax consulting services for firms as large as PricewaterhouseCoopers and as small as my own, 1-person company, to companies as large as Fortune 10 companies and as small as mom andamp; pops. I have closed my business to spend the rest of my career working toward the betterment of K-12 education. What is your previous political/ governmental experience?I have never held a political/governmental office. I served on the Board of Directors of a small private elementary school from 1999-2004 and on the Board of Directors of a $65 million manufacturing company from 1988-1996.Where do you currently live?I live in the Double Diamond area of South Reno. Why should Incline Village/Crystal Bay voters vote for you (250-word max)?I am passionate about making public education in Washoe County the best it can be for every child. Whether an issue impacts the entire district or a portion of the district (such as the previously considered International Baccalaureate in Incline Village), my decisions will always be driven by what will enhance learning. Washoe County's standard of living is becoming increasingly dependent on a highly skilled workforce. College and/or career ready (CCR) high school graduation is a MUST. I support the existing collaboration of businesses, WCSD and interested citizens to define CCR. I will relentlessly pursue the delivery of that defined opportunity to students. I believe that:• Every student deserves the opportunity to receive an excellent education.• Every student, presented with an excellent education, will learn.• Every excellent teacher should be recognized and rewarded.• Every teacher, given continuous professional development opportunities, can become excellent.WCSD has the best superintendent in the nation, a nationally recognized Board of Trustees and a strategic plan driven to improve the educational trajectory of every student. I believe we are on The Pathway to Excellence described in that strategic plan — CCR graduation happening because teachers and administrators, those who know education, are empowered and accountable. I envision students wanting to be taught, choosing to pay attention because they are learning from the most talented, motivated teachers who are thrilled at the privilege of teaching such students. Let's set expectations high and see where we end up.

I think that the Incline Village community is a very unique area and their needs can be very different than the rest of the school district. I have meet with many citizens of Incline Village and the most common problem is that Incline Village is not being heard by the Washoe County School District. Many times a program that may work for the Reno/Sparks area may not be what is needed in Incline Village, yet it is being implemented in the Incline schools without input form the community. One of the first things I would propose as a Board of Trustee would be to set up form of self-governance for education overseeing the Incline Village schools. I would set up an advisory committee made up of community members, parents, principles and the Board of Trustee for Incline Village. This committee would best reflect the communities' educational needs. I would further expand Incline Village schools to empowerment status to allow the committee and community to best decide how funds would be used for the education programs in Incline Village. Having worked in the Incline Village community and its schools I think I am the candidate that best understand the issues of Incline Village. The most important part of the Trustees job is to listen and work with the community, to best represent the people of their area and to champion their causes. If elected I will be a strong supporter of Incline Village and their right to decide their educational needs.

I am a native of Reno, Nevada, who attended Reno schools and has been passionately involved in my neighborhoods and community my entire life.
