TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; A 55-year-old Stockton, Calif., man was killed in a snowmobiling accident Saturday near Lake Tahoe, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
According to a CHP press release, the man was riding a 2011 Skidoo snowmobile east on a trail near Mt. Watson Road, deep into the Tahoe National Forest, north of the Tahoe City area.
Upon entering a curve, the man left the main-traveled portion of the trail. According to CHP, the snowmobile continued off the trail until it struck a tree.
and#8220;The impact caused the driver to separate from the snowmobile and strike a fixed object causing fatal injuries,and#8221; according to the press release.
Highway patrol received a call of the accident at about 4 p.m. Saturday.
CHP is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the collision, according to the press release.
The man's name was not included in the press release. In a phone call Tuesday afternoon, CHP Officer Tony Prisco said the name will not be released until the Placer County Coroner's Office finishes its assessment.
