Once again, Old Brockway beat its competition to the punch.
The historic Kings Beach golf course, which prides itself on early openings and late closings, was the first in the Lake Tahoe area to open when it kicked off its 88th season on Wednesday.
The course hit its target date, which always coincides with The Masters golf tournament, said Lane Lewis, owner and operator at Old Brockway since 1993.
Last year Old Brockway had to hold off until April 27 due to a lengthy winter season, which was the second-latest opening since 1980, Lewis said. Only 1982 was later, when the course didn’t open until May 27.
Three seasons ago it opened March 26, and Lewis’ staff recalls it opening March 24 one year during the late 1990s.
Old Brockway is open under full operation — seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — with no intention of closing until next winter sets in. It has remained open into December in the past, long after other Tahoe courses closed for the year.
