INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — For the second consecutive year, Red, White and Tahoe Blue is asking for the community's help in selecting this year's parade grand marshal.
This year, the parade takes place Saturday, July 7. Unlike previous years, when the parade has served as the unofficial kick-off event to the festival, it instead will anchor the final day of fun in 2012.
The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year; that's when RWTB will feature its first full day of events. Learn more about the event and parade at the festival's new website: redwhitetahoeblue.org.
The theme of this year's parade is still to be determined. Regardless, one mainstay of the parade since the very first Red, White and Tahoe Blue celebration in 2007 is it being led by a community member as grand marshal.
“The grand marshal is an honored nomination to acknowledge someone who has provided exemplary service to our country or our local community,” according to a previous RWTB press materials.
Previous grand marshals were Jack Schroeder, president of the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Veterans Club, in 2011; Manny Sylvester, a veteran and one of Incline Village's founders, in 2010; six-tour Marine Bill Redel in 2009; active community member Maryanne Ingemanson in 2008; and retired Navy Capt. Charles J. Merdinger in 2007.
Last year, Schroeder was chosen from a long list of community nominations.
If residents want to nominate someone to be grand marshal this year, they can forward a paragraph biography detailing the person's community or country service and accomplishments, along with the person's full name and your contact information (not contact information of the person you are nominating) in case of any questions.
