Marta Krusell of Incline Village and the Northstar Freestyle Ski Team ended her season with a strong finish at the USASA Freestyle National Championships at Copper Mountain, Colo., earlier this month.
Krusell, 13, competed in both slopestyle and rails in the women’s 13-15 age group and took gold in both events. She also was awarded The Cholula Hot Shot trophy for the best aerial by any female contestant in slopestyle.
Upon her return to Tahoe, Krusell participated in the High Fives Foundation Trains pro-am competition/fundraiser at Alpine Meadows, where she was awarded Best Female Athlete and received the opportunity to contribute a $1,000 check to The Shane McConkey Foundation.
Several other local skiers competed in the USASA Freestyle National Championships, including Carson Lehouillier, Alex Fulton, Alex Schrage and Jeffrey Conway.
Lehouillier earned fifth place in the men’s open class halfpipe and was sixth in the slopestyle. Fulton took third in the men’s 16-18 skiercross and fourth in the halfpipe, and placed second overall. Schrage was third in the men’s 14 and over rail jam, and Conway was fifth in the men’s 13-15 slopestyle.
