James A. Gallo, Jr. of Litchfield Park and Prescott passed away on April 23, 2012. Jim was born on July 11, 1920 in Haverstraw, NY, the son of James Aloysius and Catherine Wimple Gallo. He was married to the former Jean Wheeler Turner of Honolulu, Hawaii for 60 years.

He graduated a semester early from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY in 1942, doubling up on his studies to enlist in the United States Marine Corps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

During his military career, Jim and his family were stationed around the globe, in such places as Saipan, Finland, where he was awarded the White Rose of Finland, Camp Lejeune, and Beirut, Lebanon, where he was the Defense Attache. After retiring from the Marine Corps as a Colonel, he and Jean were able to continue their travels, and had homes in Singapore, Honolulu and Lake Tahoe. Family was the most important thing in Jim’s life, and his children and grandchildren are left with many valuable life lessons. He taught them by his outstanding example.
