Absentee ballots for June primary to be mailed Monday

TRUCKEE/TAHOE — Voters who requested absentee ballots for the upcoming June 5 primary should begin checking mail boxes next week, as the forms will be sent out by county elections offices starting Monday.

In the upcoming election, Placer County residents living along Lake Tahoe's North Shore will be asked to decide whether or not to renew the 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax charged to visitors staying at area hotels, motels and other overnight accommodations. It's on the ballot as “Measure F.”

The North Lake Tahoe-specific 2 percent TOT is in addition to the 8 percent TOT added to the nightly room rates charged countywide at overnight accommodations. TOT is paid by visitors only and is used to fund North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services.

To learn more about Measure F, contact North Lake Tahoe Resort Association Executive Director Sandy Evans Hall at 530-581-8739 or sandy@PureTahoeNorth.com.

Among other larger state primary elections, local voters in both Placer and Nevada County will also be asked to vote for their supervisor.

In Placer County, incumbent Jennifer Montgomery will be running for Seat No. 5 against four other candidates — Gary T. Johnson, Richard A. Johnson, Jerry Johnson and Mark Wright.

Nevada County voters originally had the choice between Truckee residents Richard Anderson and Michael Rogers for the local Nevada County supervisor seat. However, Rogers recently announced his withdrawal from the race, so Anderson is now running unopposed.

For more information, voters should visit their county elections offices at www.placerelections.com or www.mynevadacounty.com.
