Fairytails and story lines at Academy of Dance performances

The 18th annual Spring Concerts of the Academy of Dance Arts will be presented in the MontBleu Theatre at Stateline at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19. Doors open at 5 p.m.

"For the last couple of years the studio has performed ballets with no themes or story lines," said Kelly O'Fallon, the owner and director of the Academy of Dance Arts. "This year we decided to have not one story line, but seven.

"The Ballet is entitled 'Princess for a Day" and the students will be performing excerpts from such fairytales as 'Aladdin,' 'The Little Mermaid,' 'Pocahontas' and 'Sleeping Beauty.' Each fairytale is represented by its princess as well as a variety of colorful and entertaining characters weaving in and out of each story line. It has been such an awesome dance season because all the teachers and students have such a great time creating all these characters we can all identify with; along with music that is fun and familiar."

After a brief intermission, the show will continue with the jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary and tap portion of the show, "Divas & Dudes."

"From Justin Bieber and Rihanna to Bob Seger and Gloria Estefan, there is a little something for everyone," O'Fallon said. "There is such an abundant of talent in the studio and for two nights in May, all that talent is displayed beautifully by each and every student, teacher and choreographer affiliated with the Academy of Dance."
