7th annual Kids for Conservation Festival a huge success at Parasol

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — On April 25, the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center in Incline Village was filled with excited children at the seventh annual Kids for Conservation Festival.This “Kids Only” Earth Day event offered children ages 3 to 10 a hands-on opportunity to learn about water, watersheds, wildlife, aquatic bugs, recycling, soil science, electricity and a host of other environmental topics.During the afternoon the 125 children in attendance had the opportunity to explore, imagine, create and learn at 16 activity stations hosted by a variety of local non-profits and agencies.Two of the activity stations were run by students from Incline Elementary and Tahoe Expedition Academy — a true example of student leadership and peer education.Area groups presenting activities included: the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, U.C. Davis' Tahoe Environmental Research Center, IVGID Waste Not, the Tahoe Baikal Institute, Incline Elementary School's Student Council, Tahoe Expedition Academy, Great Basin Outdoor School, League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, Waste Management of Northern Nevada, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Susie Scoops, Tahoe Institute for Natural Sciences, U.S. Forest Service, American Red Cross and Sierra Streams Institute.This year's event was organized and sponsored by IVGID Waste Not, Waste Management and The Parasol Foundation.
