Village Notes: What's happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Let’s get ready to celebrate the opening of the lake this weekend. Of course the Tahoe tradition is for snow so don’t be surprised if that is the forecast.

Still, it will be easier than last year when we still had snow on the ground to greet visitors.

Remember that the lack of snow this winter means we have to be extra careful with fires. Please help everyone have a safe summer and obey the fire rules. If you have any questions about fire rules, contact the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Waste Not is coordinating the annual Incline Village/Crystal Bay North Shore Community Clean-up events from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 2. Meet at the Recreation Center to receive assignments and supplies. For information contact Waste Not at 775-832-1284. Please help keep the village clean.

Don’t forget the Fur Ball is Saturday, June 2. If you do not have tickets call 775-832-4404 or stop at the Pet Network facility.

The Incline Hospital Auxiliary annual Classy Garage Sale will be from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 8, in the parking lot of the Incline Village Hospital. The ladies are still taking donations of all kinds except clothing. If you have some large items arrange to have them picked up by calling Cookie at 775-831-2698 or Barbara at 775-832-6760.

This is your last chance for nominations for Red, White and Tahoe Blue’s parade grand marshal.

The annual community parade is on July 7 and grand marshal nominations close on May 31. Send nominations to jims@redwhitetahoeblue.org or ellise@centurysecurities.com.

The North Lake Tahoe Women’s Club is planning its annual fashion show for Aug. 12. Be sure to save the date for this annual event on your calendar. It will be at the Lakeshore Room of the Hyatt this year. Anyone interested in helping should contact Kristen at 775-832-8012.

Congratulations to Katharine Mancuso who graduated with honors from Hillsdale College on May 10. She is off to Washington, D.C., to work as an intern at the Kiley Institute for the summer before starting Law School at UNLV in the fall. Way to go Katharine.

Birthdays to celebrate this week include: Nancy Porten on May 24; Jeff Clothier, Salvador Estrada and Kathie Maxwell on May 25; Shirley Nelson on May 27; Nicholas Klem on May 28; Shaun Riley on May 29; Dennis Potesta and Denise Springsteel on May 30.

Of course the deal and steal for this weekend is from 10 a.m-8 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Tahoe Biltmore. The community is invited to the annual Memorial celebration featuring a free hot dog lunch, military displays, live music, face painting and a bounce house along with a fly over by a C-130 that takes your breath away. Don’t miss this event.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and news along with the best deals and steals you can find to jeanmeick@aol.com.
