Summer blood drive in Incline aims to help save lives

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Help save a life this summer by donating blood. During the hot months of the year, donors often are in short supply. Many are on vacation or having fun in the sun.“It’s no secret,” said Jan McKee with United Blood Services. “People simply are much busier than they are at other times of the year. Although donors might have other things to do, patients continue to need blood.” Blood can be stored for only 42 days. Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three or four times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood.Incline Village’s upcoming drive is Friday, June 8, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the DWR Non-Profit Center, 948 Incline Way, Incline Village, sponsored by the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. People unable to donate are encouraged to recruit those who can. Make your appointment to give blood at www.UnitedBloodServices.org with sponsor code “parasol” or by calling 775-298-0180. With each donation, donors receive a free total cholesterol test and earn points in United Blood Services’ Hero in Me reward program. All presenting donors through Sept. 1 will be entered into a drawing to win a new Toyota Corolla L.E. 4-door sedan.Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
