Katelyn Wright, an Incline High grad and to-be junior on the University of Nebraska women’s golf team, qualified for the 64-player match-play portion of the 36th annual U.S. Women’s Amateur Publinks Championships in New Jersey on Tuesday.
Wright shot a 73 on Monday and a 75 on Tuesday to close at 148 in the stroke-play portion of the tournament. She faced a field of 156 of the top amateur golfers in the country on the 6,221-yard, par-72 Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
After making the cut by one stroke with her two-round score, Wright was matched up against Emilie Burger of Hoschton, Ga., in Wednesday’s opening round of match play. Burger defeated Wright to advance to the round of 32.
University of Nebraska teammate Steffi Neisen, meanwhile, followed a first-round 70 with a second-round 68 to finish in a tie for second overall in stroke play.
