Summer has arrived along with Toccataand#8217;s seventh season.
The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus opened its 21-concert summer series this week with and#8220;Taste of Toccata SummerFest Kickoff.and#8221;
The opening concert will be performed twice more this week, Thursday, June 21 at Homewood, Saturday, June 23 at Incline Village and Sunday, June 24 in Reno
A and#8220;Soiree Musicaleand#8221; fundraiser is slated for Tuesday, June 26 in a private home in Truckee.
LAKE TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; The opening concert features Josue Casillas, principal flutist with the Puerto Rico Symphony. He will perform Vivaldiand#8217;s Concerto for 2 flutes, strings and continuo, with Allison Smith playing the second solo part. Violinist Brune Macary performs Vivaldiand#8217;s and#8220;Summerand#8221; Concerto from the Four Seasons, and concertmaster Virginia Bowman joins Mr. Casillas for Bachand#8217;s Concerto for Flute, Violin, Strings and Continuo in C minor BWV 1060. David Brock will perform as harpsichordist, with Tracy Beaver, Nick Haines and Zack Teran as continuo cello and bass. Soprano Anna Helwing joins in for two arias from Bachand#8217;s and#8220;Weddingand#8221; Cantata, and the rousing finale is the aria and#8220;Sweet Birdand#8221;, a tour-de-force for soprano, flute and strings,from Händeland#8217;s opera Il Penseroso.
The June 21 performance is a dinner concert at the West Shore Cafe in Homewood. Wine and Cheese starts at 5 p.m., with the concert beginning at 5:15pm. A four course gourmet dinner follows, with champagne and wines provided by Skipstone Ranch Vineyard from the Alexander Valley of California. Seating is limited 40 people, and tickets are $130. The series continues June 23 in St. Patrickand#8217;s Church at Incline Village at 7 p.m., and the final presentation will be Sunday, June 24, 4 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church at Reno.
Maestro James Rawie will conduct all concerts.
Tickets are $25 adults, $20 seniors, (62 and older), and $5 students (19-23). Preferred seating is $35. A grant from the Tahoe Parasol Foundation allows youth under 18 to enter at no charge. Tickets can be purchased in advance by credit card at www.ToccataTahoe.com or at the door 30 minutes prior to the concert.
A and#8220;Soiree Musicaleand#8221; fundraiser takes place on Tuesday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. at a private home in Truckee. Tickets for the fundraiser are $50, and include wine, cheese, the concert, and an opportunity to meet the artists.
