The Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance Wooden Boat Show, founded by members of the Tahoe Yacht Club in 1972 and hosted by the Club’s Foundation since 1994, is regarded nationally as the premier event for maritime enthusiasts. Riva Aquarama will have its 50th anniversary as the 2012 featured Marque Class. The classically beautiful and aristocratic Riva Aquarama was sought after during the height of the Cinarama movie era as a symbol of elegance, wealth and fame.
Designed by Carlo Riva in 1962, the Riva Aquarama became the flagship and most famous design of all Riva models. At this year’s show, the Foundation anticipates one of the largest gatherings of this unique design, which in total produced 769 Aquarama’s during its production period ending in 1996. The Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance showcases anywhere from 75 to 110 antique boats each year and draws more than 5,000 participants and visitors. The goal of the Foundation is to maintain the heritage of wooden boating while providing an entertaining and learning experience for all to enjoy. Along with the main show, the Foundation hosts a number of social gatherings including Opening Night Gala, Awards Barbecue, Ladies Luncheon and Men’s Grill.
