Sobriety checkpoint to be held July 6

The California Highway Patrol and South Lake Tahoe Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, July 6 on US-50 in South Lake Tahoe, Lt. Brian Cook announced Thursday in a press release.

The sobriety checkpoint will be staffed by officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers, the release stated.

"A sobriety checkpoint is an effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations," Cook stated. "By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from drinking and driving."
