Dean Meiling stepping down as Parasol board chair

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — In 2000, when Dean Meiling joined the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation’s board of directors, he had been a donor at the organization for several years.

“I first got acquainted with Parasol in the late 1990s as a donor,” Meiling said. “And quickly appreciated how Parasol facilitated my charitable giving and tax management.”

As a member of the board, Meiling gained more respect for how Parasol strengthened the entire nonprofit sector and enhanced the community. He took over the position of chairman of the board at Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation in 2005.

“As Parasol’s chair for the past seven years, I have seen the organization evolve and mature to become a leader for the North Shore as well as for the entire Tahoe Basin,” he said. “Talented staff and exceptional leadership assure that Parasol will continue its important role in our community.”

He also serves on its Investment Committee and provides leadership throughout the community. Meiling is one of the panelists of the popular Current Thoughts on the Economy forum Parasol provides annually for the community.

On July 1, Meiling turned over his board leadership role. He will continue on the board as vice chair, continue on the Investment Committee and continue to be part of Parasol’s role in the community.

“Dean has been the quiet force behind the success of Parasol over the past seven years. Both Parasol and our community have truly benefited from his quality leadership and kind generosity,” said Claudia Andersen, CEO of Parasol. “We are grateful for not only his past board leadership, but are very appreciative of his willingness to remain actively involved in parasol and community issues.”

David Hardie, former vice chair, will take over as the board’s new chair.
