Out-of-town athletes fare well in Run to the Beach 5K, 10K

Nearly 200 runners, many from out the area, participated in the Run to the Beach 5K and 10K races put on by Big Blue Adventure on Wednesday.

The runs, which included 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer options, started in North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista and ended in Kings Beach.

In the 10K run, Jeffrey Moreland, 35, of Reno captured the overall win in a time of 36 minutes and 42 seconds, while on the women's side, Michaela Alamillo, 19, of Walnut Creek recorded a winning time of 47:43.

Noah Brautigam, 23, of Kings Beach was the top local finisher, as he placed third behind runner-up Chris Barber of Reno in a time of 41:57 to Barber's 41:30.

Danielle Zick, 30, of Carnelian Bay finished runner-up among women and 14th overall in 48:34. Jim Telling, 54, of Incline Village placed eighth overall in 43:29. A total of 58 people finished the 10K, while 76 were registered.

The 5K proved to be the more popular distance, as 108 of the 114 registered participants finished.

Another Reno runner, 33-year-old Jeff Huxhold, claimed the victory in the 5K, recording a time of 18:24. Chris Badolato, also of Reno, was second in 20:32, and Jim Harvey of Sparks was third in 20:44.

Sarah Hallas, 32, of Petaluma finished fourth overall and first among women in a time of 21:19. Suzie Harvey of Sparks was the second woman and seventh overall finisher in 23:15, and Kristen Martin del Campo of Kings Beach was the third woman and 13th overall in 24:10.

Kirby McAndrew of Kings Beach placed seventh in the women's field in 28:16. Find the complete results at www.bigblueadventure.com.
