Moody's Jazz Camp kids to serenade seniors

TRUCKEE — Returning for a second year, the talented children from Moody's Jazz Camp will perform for seniors at the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments Community Room on Thursday, July 19, 3:30-5 p.m. Fifteen children ages 10-17 will participate in the Moody's week-long camp led by an all-star faculty of artists-in-residence. These talented young people have agreed to share their music with the seniors on this special day.

JJ Morgan of Moody's, as host of the afternoon performance, will help demonstrate how these kids are taught to throw away their sheet music, and instead create their own musical arrangements. This strategy encourages them to become writers, arrangers, composers and performers.

Assisting JJ will be guest lecturers and performers. Adam Theis, a member of the Shotgun Wedding Quintet, will appear on trombone with Grammy nominated Peter Apfelbaum. They will be joined by John Ellis, Josh Jones, and jazz artist Sam Minae. Todd Sickafoose, called “a captivating composer, and master of collaboration” will perform on bass and completing the line up will be Grammy nominated composer and producer Ben Wendel on saxophone.

This unique, interactive performance for the seniors will also include audience participation. Call Sierra Senior Services in advance if you want to join and jam, or attend this free, open-to-the-public event at 530-587-2408, or Performing Artists For Seniors www.pafs.org.
