November 27, 1949 ~ July 11, 2012
Kenneth Halvor Helseth passed away suddenly in Reno, NV on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from a brain aneurysm. He was surrounded by his soul mate and life partner, Sue Ewbank of South Lake Tahoe, CA, his daughter, Autumn Helseth Soda, his sons,Waylon Helseth of Santa Cruz, and most recently, of Honolulu, HI, Casey Helseth of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Kenneth Helseth, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, his brother, Brian Helseth of Plain, WA, his sister, Rhonda Helseth Poehlmann of Mendocino, CA and his grandchildren, Keana, Kainoa and Kenji Soda of Honolulu, HI.
Ken was born in Anchorage, Alaska on November 27, 1949, but his heart and soul were always in Tahoe, where he never grew tired of looking at the lake.
He moved to South Lake Tahoe as a youngster and graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1969. Drafted after graduation, he served as a medic in Germany and Vietnam until 1971. He was proud to have earned the honor of "Marksman".
Ken's calling as a Master Carpenter can be seen all around Lake Tahoe. He was responsible for building many of the finest homes and resorts in the area, including the 100 million dollar home known as "Tranquility House". He lived in Alaska for several years and built many schools and post offices in remote villages throughout the Alaskan outback. Upon his return from Alaska, he took his carpentry skills to Santa Cruz in the late 1980's.
Ken was loved wherever he went. Those who knew him had many a story of carousing and wreaking havoc. He cherished every adventure with his family and friends and the time spent making memories. He loved to dance with the ladies. Ken loved to play softball and was on almost every bar-sponsored team in South Lake Tahoe.
He was especially proud of his children. They remember him for his kind-hearted, generous and loving nature. He was always the life of the party and had fun wherever he went.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date to allow family and friends to gather.
Truly, to know Kenny was to love him. He will be missed forever.
