Spring fire continues to burn

The cost of fighting the Spring fire has hit $94,000 as of 5 a.m. today. The 1,000-acre blaze is still smoldering in the Pine Nuts far above Carson Valley.

There is no report of containment or control on any of the fires that were started by lightning on Sunday night.

According to the National Interagency Coordination Center incident management situation report, the Spring fire crowned, burning in pinon pine and juniper.

The Divide Fire grew to 30 acres as of 10:25 p.m. with three hand crews working to contain it.

Fire units patrolled lightning areas through the night for new starts.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports nearly two dozen fires or false alarms starting at 2 p.m. Sunday and continuing into this morning.

Lightning strikes continue in the Pine Nuts south of Highway 395, and brief heavy showers are drifting around the Valley.
