London 2012 is still on the horizon, but the local community is already looking ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics and the possibility that those Games could come to Lake Tahoe. Even though he thinks the skiing is great here, Bode Miller said he would just assume those Games didn’t come to Tahoe. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic gold medalist in the super combined ski event was in town for the 23rd annual American Century Championship. For Miller, he’d rather see the lake and the surrounding mountains kept as pristine as possible. “It’s a huge responsibility. It’s no joke. The entire world is focused on your little area,” Miller said after finishing the first competitive round of the ACC on Friday. “Tahoe’s such a pristine, nature kind of area, and if you have to prepare for that kind of thing, there’s a down side, too. There’s parts about it that no one focuses on because it’s the Olympics, but an area like this, you’d love to see it stay how it is,” Miller said. Chad Fleischer, a former member of the U.S. ski team and a downhill national champion, also made it out to the ACC, and was more optimistic about the potential bid. “It would be an amazing venue. It would be great to see the Olympics held in a place with such great people and such great skiing,” Fleischer said on Thursday before teeing off at the sixth hole.
