Tahoe Youth Ballet to present ‘Dance in the Park’

TAHOE, Calif. — Tahoe Youth Ballet presents another special evening at Sugar Pine Point State Park, hailed as one of last summer’s best cultural events. The program will feature guest artist Kristina Berger (Erick Hawkins Dance Company), with returning TYB alumnae Michelle Cahill and Keegan Harrig with Tahoe Youth Ballet’s company members in an evening of all new works.Guest choreographers Kyle Pleasant and Vera Huff each created pieces for the company during their summer residencies. Guest artist Kristina Berger will present her solo UNTWISTED, a work about the search for and discovery of true clarity through letting go; she and founding company member Camille Joubert will also collaborate on a creation they will perform together. For the whole company, founding artistic director Christin Hanna will stage Deborah Wingert’s Mozart Serenade to selections from Mozart’s legendary Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Hanna also presents a new work of her own for the company.Kristina Berger, from Washington D.C., has toured internationally as performer and teacher. She is a principal dancer with Erick Hawkins Dance Company, a founding member of SWATT, and a teacher of the Horton Technique. She discovered her love of the Horton Technique as a scholarship student at Jacob’s Pillow studying with Jimmy Truitte. She has performed with Lester Horton Dance Theatre, Inc. under the direction of Don Martin. Other companies include Molissa Fenley andamp; Dancers, Joyce Trisler Danscompany and Washington Opera Ballet. Other adventures include solo guest artist as the first female “Hanuman The Monkey King” with Bali’s foremost music and dance company, Semara Ratih, under NYC’s Balinese American Dance Theatre and circus dancer with Ringling Bros. andamp; Barnum and Bailey Circus. Tahoe Youth Ballet was started in 2009 by Christin Hanna with the mission to enrich the cultural and educational fabric of Lake Tahoe by establishing a professional level ballet company after she returned to Tahoe from dancing professionally. The company has presented 19 contemporary and classical works by guest choreographers from around the world who have come to Lake Tahoe to set or create their work on Tahoe’s talented artists.
