Truckee artist Barbara Glynn Prodaniuk to showcase ceramics in San Francisco

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Truckee resident Barbara Glynn Prodaniuk has been handcrafting ceramic sculptures, wall art and housewares for more than 30 years. Her artistic inspiration is drawn from everyday life, stories and myths. “I like to make people think and laugh through my work. We all need to laugh more,” said Prodaniuk.

Prodaniuk is well-known throughout the Tahoe region for her ceramic creations, and in August, she will return to the national spotlight at the American Craft Council Show in San Francisco, Aug. 3-5 at the Fort Mason Center. Returning for her third year, Prodaniuk is one of 230 artists selected to participate in the largest juried craft show west of the Rockies. “The American Craft Council Show in San Francisco displays an exciting mixture of top quality and fine craft. It is a huge honor to be included among the nation’s most talented artisans,” she said.

Prodaniuk’s ceramics are created with wheel-thrown and slab construction techniques, firing at a variety of temperatures to achieve unique textures and surfaces. Incorporating a mixture of narrative, sculptural and functional designs, her ceramics highlight themes that resonate with times past.

The American Craft Council show includes artwork in a vast array of mediums and genres by artists from the Bay Area and beyond. Highlights at the 2012 show include artisan works in fashion, jewelry, home decor, green craft and more, plus five new categories: Bride-To-Be, Foodieware, Men’s Dept., Blue Chip and Local. The popular $5 After 5 Friday night event offers $5 admission after 5 p.m. Also, Balvenie Whiskey, a handcrafted single malt whisky, will be on site celebrating craftsmanship with regular tastings and an opportunity to view its original documentary: “Handmade: A Celebration of American Craftsmanship.” For more information, please visit www.craftcouncil.org.
