More than 25 young golfers from across the region, including three from Incline Village, competed in the Northern California Junior Golf Tourand#8217;s second annual Coyote Moon Jr. Open in Truckee on July 28-29.
The event was a 36-hole, stroke play tournament and was Junior Golf Scoreboard approved with national ranking points. It featured golfers between the ages of 9 and 18, both male and female.
Recent Incline High grad Jordan Wright claimed the win in the boysand#8217; 15-18 age group by seven strokes over Justin Raskin of Auburn. Wright carded a 71 on the par-72 Coyote Moon Golf Club course on Day 1 and followed that up with a 72 on the second day for a winning score of 143. Raskin (150) shot a 75 both days.
and#8220;Jordan is an incredible golfer,and#8221; said Michael Lucas, founder of the Northern California Junior Golf Tour. and#8220;He really just took charge of the tournament.and#8221;
Among the other first-day leaders, Austin Long of El Dorado Hills and Ali Hoffman of Novato carried their success over to the second day to win their respective divisions and#8212; boysand#8217; 11-14 and girlsand#8217; 15-18. Hoffman shot a 171 over the two days (84-78) and Long a 153 (74-79).
Mitchell Cornell of Incline Village finished right on Longand#8217;s heels for second place in the boysand#8217; 11-14 age group. He fired a 78 and a 79 to finish four strokes back (157).
Another Incline golfer, Bryan Golombik, finished eighth in the same division, posting a 183 (90-93).
This tournament will move venues next year. The dates will be available at www.ncjgt.com starting in January 2013.
