More than 25 young golfers from across the region, including three from Incline Village, competed in the Northern California Junior Golf Tour’s second annual Coyote Moon Jr. Open in Truckee on July 28-29.
The event was a 36-hole, stroke play tournament and was Junior Golf Scoreboard approved with national ranking points. It featured golfers between the ages of 9 and 18, both male and female.
Recent Incline High grad Jordan Wright claimed the win in the boys’ 15-18 age group by seven strokes over Justin Raskin of Auburn. Wright carded a 71 on the par-72 Coyote Moon Golf Club course on Day 1 and followed that up with a 72 on the second day for a winning score of 143. Raskin (150) shot a 75 both days.
“Jordan is an incredible golfer,” said Michael Lucas, founder of the Northern California Junior Golf Tour. “He really just took charge of the tournament.”
Among the other first-day leaders, Austin Long of El Dorado Hills and Ali Hoffman of Novato carried their success over to the second day to win their respective divisions — boys’ 11-14 and girls’ 15-18. Hoffman shot a 171 over the two days (84-78) and Long a 153 (74-79).
Mitchell Cornell of Incline Village finished right on Long’s heels for second place in the boys’ 11-14 age group. He fired a 78 and a 79 to finish four strokes back (157).
Another Incline golfer, Bryan Golombik, finished eighth in the same division, posting a 183 (90-93).
This tournament will move venues next year. The dates will be available at www.ncjgt.com starting in January 2013.
