Gary was raised in Southern California and Tahoe then became his home for 28 years. He loved sports, and was a marathon runner for over 30 years competing throughout the world. In 2000, Gary learned he had Parkinson’s disease, and retired to Tucson in 2004. He often golfed 27 holes a day, and felt exercise was important in fighting the disease.
Gary’s marathons and an annual barbecue at Heritage Highlands in Marana, AZ, raised tens of thousands of dollars for Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Following a recent cancer diagnosis, Gary spent his last days enjoying camping in Lake Tahoe. Memorials are tentatively scheduled in his honor at Heritage Highlands in the Fall, and Squaw Valley in January.
