TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Aug. 14 Good Morning Truckee will hear from two speakers.
Tahoe Truckee was recently named an All America City by the National Civic League based on its ambitious plan to ensure more children are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Only 14 communities from a field of more than 100 entries received this award. Laura Abbey Brown, executive director of the Excellence in Education Foundation, will talk more about the All America City Award and what it means for the community.
The second topic will focus on the Tahoe Truckee Biomass Project. Placer County has been in pursuit of a biomass facility in the Sierra Nevada. The proposed site is at the Eastern Regional Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station at Cabin Creek, off Highway 89 between Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The proposed facility would utilize gasification technology to convert woody biomass gathered from area forests into energy. While this is good for the Tahoe Region, what kind of repercussions might it have on Truckee? Brett Storey, Placer County Biomass Program Manager will discuss the details of the project and answer questions regarding the effects it may have on Truckee.
