Village Notes: Whatand#8217;s happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — This weekend is supposed to be a hot one for our village. My suggestion is to head to the beaches or off into the mountain trails to stay cool. Let’s see how many locals really do fit on one beach at a time. We also have lots of classical music happening this weekend. It is the last weekend for the free summer concerts sponsored by the Tahoe Chamber Music, and SummerFest has another weekend of concerts.

We do have fun events on the calendar too for the weekend. Join the Summer Sunset pool party on Saturday 10 a.m. -8 p.m. at the Tahoe Biltmore. Great way to cool off, let the kids have some fun and enjoy Tahoe.

Sunday is another busy day for events. First, the annual Tahoe’s Connection for Families Teddy Bear Picnic is in Aspen Grove. For more information visit tcfkids.org or call 775-832-8230. Also on Sunday the Women’s Club of North Lake Tahoe’s annual fashion show will be in the Lakeside Room at the Hyatt. The event includes a special prize for the most outrageous hat at the event! Tickets are $60 and can be purchased by calling Nan Healy at 775-832-0939.

Tim O’Brien, author of “The Things They Carried,” and Andy Whyman will be guest speakers at noon on Monday, Aug. 13, at the Rotary Club of Incline Village’s weekly meeting. Call Judy Spees at 775-832-7006 for information or to make a reservation to attend.

Like Cowboy Poetry? The IVCH Foundation is sponsoring its annual Cowboy Poetry Barbecue from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, at the home of Janet Pahl and Warren Kocmond. Tickets can be purchased by calling 775-888-4201. Seating is limited.

The annual P.E.O. Taste of Incline is from 4:30- 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 at The Chateau. Tickets can be purchased at the Potlatch or by calling 775-831-8330.

If you did not receive an invitation to Parasol’s Community Table event on Thursday, Sept. 6, at Shakespeare Ranch in Glenbrook, please call Jean Eick at 775-298-0184. Seating is limited so if you have not purchased a ticket, hurry before it is sold out.

A note to all local bowlers — leagues will be starting soon so start planning and practicing now.

Happy anniversary to Bob and Annette Mimiaga this week!

I have been notified that Maryanne Ingemanson is celebrating her birthday this week. Other birthdays this week include: Tim Buxton on Aug. 9; Nick Saadi on Aug. 10; Josh Dykstra and Teri Fitzpatrick on Aug. 11; Scott Tepper on Aug. 12; Rad Birmingham on Aug. 13; Austin Barraza, Erik Castaneda and Tim Coleman on Aug. 14; Pete Todoroff on Aug. 15. Happy Birthday!

The best deal or steal in the village is the Starlight Cinema and barbecue at Aspen Grove on Thursday, Aug. 16. The movie is Kung Fu Panda 2. Register online at www.inclinerecreationcenter or call 775-832-1310. Great family event.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
