North Tahoe Rams accepting football, cheerleading sign-ups

The North Lake Tahoe Pop Warner football and cheerleading teams are recruiting new members for the upcoming fall season — but spots are filling up quickly.

The Rams, made up of players from the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area, are currently fielding two teams: Pee Wee, ages 9-12, and Mitey Mites, ages 7-9. Girls can play football, too, in case cheering isn’t for them.

Pop Warner football has been around since its inception in 1929. It is the only youth football program in the area that enforces a strict age and weight matrix to reduce injury risk. Children compete with others of similar size and age, and new rules for the 2012 season that limit contact unique to Pop Warner also help keep kids safer on the field.

Pop Warner is also the only football program in the country that both enforces scholastic performance minimums and rewards scholastic excellence.

Players will benefit from participating in football and cheerleading in a fun, safe and structured environment while gaining an appreciation for leadership, teamwork and discipline. No prior football experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun.

Football players and cheerleaders can apply for financial aid, but time is running out. To learn more about how to register and/or apply for financial aid, go to http://northtahoepopwarner.com or call Scott Wilderman at 775-527-2079.
