El Dorado County Sheriff's Office seeks STAR volunteers

The El Dorado County Sheriff's office is looking for volunteers for its Sherriff's Team of Active Retirees.

STAR volunteers provide additional eyes and ears for the Lake Tahoe branch of El Dorado County's Sheriff's Office. Volunteers must attend a two-week training academy scheduled later this year and meet other requirements prior to graduation, after which they must volunteer for 16 hours each month.

STAR members are 50 years old and older, knowledgable, responsible, compassionate and fun. A local monthly meeting will bring members up to date with the sheriff's office and its needs. Activities throughout the year include The Drug Store Project, Senior Grad Night, Every 15 Minutes, Air Show, Fire Fest, as well as patrolling neighborhoods and outlying areas in the lake basin and making home checks.

For more information or to sign up, visit the sheriff's office at 1360 Johnson Blvd. or call 573-3000.
