OBITUARY: Elwood "Woody" Peterson

1936 - 2012

Elwood "Woody" Peterson, age 76, passed away on May 2, 2012, in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Elwood "Woody" Martin Peterson was born on January 29, 1936 to Orville Peterson and Pearl Olson Peterson (born at the same farm that he spent his final days). He was Baptized on June 28, 1936 and confirmed on July 30, 1950. Woody graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1954. He attended North Park College in Chicago briefly then attended De Vry Technical Institute in Chicago graduating April 27, 1956. He served in the US Army Reserves for many years. Woody was married to Karan Kleen on June 7, 1959 in Lake Park, Iowa. Woody had a great life! He lived life to the fullest and was involved in many different things. He was a Boy Scout leader, he enjoyed camping, photography, geography, music and travel. He owned several business ventures over the years including Guns of Tahoe in Roundhill at Stateline, Nv.

After farming got difficult in the 80's, he came to Tahoe and opened Guns of Tahoe. He used to always say, "What you have in Nevada is gaming. Farming, now that's gambling."

He loved meeting and talking to people. He maintained close relationships with his class of '54 and enjoyed participating in their many reunions. He loved celebrating birthdays and holidays with his kids and grandkids and especially enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends. Whenever asked about his greatest accomplishments, his reply was always family.

Woody is survived by his wife Karan, son Terry (wife Mary Grace and son John Michael), son Mark (wife Beth and daughter Marie, son Caleb), son Craig (wife Cindy and son Joshua, daughter Madison, son Jonah), daughter Celeste (son Eli), and great granddaughter, Michaela, his sisters, Carol Becker of Yankton, SD and Eileen (Larry) Lundeen of Pomeroy and many nieces and nephews. Woody was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Delmar Becker and nephew, Tim Becker.

A service was held in Iowa soon after his death. He was affiliated with Tahoe Community Church at Stateline, Nv.
