Neilson Powless of Roseville and Genevieve Evans of Carnelian Bay claimed victories in the XTERRA Lake Tahoe off-road triathlon in Incline Village this past Saturday, while several Incline locals posted top finishes.
Powless won the race in a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes, 30 seconds to runner-up Matthew Balzer's 2:49:24. XTERRA pro Damian Gonzalez was third in 2:55:05.
Evans took the win among women and was 17th overall out of 128 total athletes in the field in a time of 3:15:10. Shayna Powless was the second woman and 21st overall in 3:16:07, and Julie Baker of Davis was the third woman in 3:26:09.
Ross McMahan led the Incline Village contingent with an 11th-place finish in 3:08:49. He was followed by fellow Incline residents Rob Laurie, who was 13th in 3:10:35, and Peter Hanson, who was 20th in 3:15:57.
Truckee's Kara LaPoint finished fifth among women in 3:28:52, and Julie Young was sixth in 3:31:00.
The race consisted of two 750-meter swim laps with a 50-meter beach run, a 22-mile mountain bike ride on the Flume Trail, which included 4,000 feet of climbing, and a 6-mile run.
In the shorter sprint triathlon, which included a 0.46-mile swim, the same 22-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run, Justin Hurd took the overall win in a time of 2:30:23, while Amber Finch of Truckee was the top woman and 12th overall in 3:08:32.
Marc Rancourt was second overall in 2:46:43, and Dan Runhaar was third in 2:50:38. Susan Hughes was the second woman in 3:18:46, and Chrissy Robertson was third in 3:39:26.
The weekend also included the 5- and 10-kilometer Big Blue Trail Runs.
In the 5K, Incline's Levi Dodge finished second overall out of 41 runners in a time of 18:06 to winner Jeff Huxhold's 16:22. Ryan Eppalito was third in 20:04, while Jessica Barton of Truckee was the top woman and eighth overall in 21:46. Also competing from Incline were Kari Ferguson (30:57) and Owen Hill (10:09).
Reno runners captured the top three places in the 10K, with JB Benna taking the win in 37:25. Jim Telling of Incline took fourth in 40:34, while Rose Beenk of Incline was the sixth woman and 21st overall in 51:22. There were 41 people in the race.
